Make a Plan

Before disaster strikes it is important to make a plan.  Prepare yourself, your family and your home as much as possible.   Don't put it off any longer, make a plan today!

When making a plan here are some questions to consider:

  1. What emergencies and disasters do we need to plan for?

  2. How will we receive emergency notifications?

  3. What is our evacuation plan?

  4. What is our emergency communication plan?

  5. What is the status of our emergency supply kit?  Do we have one in our home? Car?

When formulating your plan be sure to think carefully about the specific needs of your household.   Your plan needs to consider the ages and abilities of your household in addition to any specific medical, dietary and pet needs.  It is also important to remember that your family may not be together when a disaster strikes, so it is crucial that everyone in your household knows how to contact one another, and where to reconnect if you are separated.   It's best to establish family meeting locations that are familiar to everyone.  Your family should select two reconnection locations, one inside your neighborhood and another outside of your neighorhood in the event of an evacuation.

Lastly...don't forget to practice!  Be sure that everyone is confident in how to execute the plan.  Being prepared is the best way to remain calm in these stressful emergency situations.
